Coastal Alaska clean-up expedition

  • Basecamp Retreat
  • 4 days; 3 nights
  • 8 travelers
  • Begins & ends in Anchorage
Whidbey is a rarely-visited Alaskan gem that sees under 50 visitors a year and is only a 20-mile boat ride from Seward. The mix of old-growth rainforest, glaciers, pristine rivers and raw Alaskan waves creates a profound tonic. The Earthtones team first visited Whidbey in 2019 and were so struck by the ecosystem that we purchased land with plans to establish a future regenerative retreat. This year in August we are leading another expedition to Whidbey with the intent of cleaning up this pristine corner of paradise from the trash that reaches its shores after crossing thousands of miles into the ocean. We will be based on one of Whidbey's wild beaches, an ideal base to enjoy a range of other activities besides the cleanup, such as surfing, kayaking, hiking, SUP, fishing and more. For a few days, we will be decidedly away from the rest of the world, intent on enjoying the glories of the natural landscape around us and making a small contribution to keeping it intact. Note that we will be wild-camping, therefore we will not have access to modern-day commodities such as fully-equipped kitchen or in-room bathrooms. Instead, we will enjoy the luxury of sharing stories by the campfire and sleeping under much, much more than only 5 stars :) An unforgettable experience, guaranteed!read more
